Step 1
Preheat the oven to 230 degrees.
- 2
Step 2
Thaw the puff pastry and roll it out to a size slightly larger than the diameter of the pan. Place the rolled-out pastry in the refrigerator so it doesn't rise.
- 3
Step 3
Clean the apples, cut them in half and remove the core. Sprinkle the halves with lemon juice.
- 4
Step 4
Melt the butter in a skillet, add sugar and cinnamon. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved and caramel forms.
- 5
Step 5
Remove the skillet from the heat. Carefully arrange the apples in the caramel as tightly as possible, standing the halves on their edges.
- 6
Step 6
Return the pan to the stove on low heat for 25 minutes. The caramel will begin to boil and increase in volume due to the apple juice. After the time has elapsed, remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.
- 7
Step 7
Spread the dough on top, tucking the edges around the apples. Make 3–4 holes in the dough with a knife and place the skillet in the oven for 30 minutes.
- 8
Step 8
Remove the pie from the oven and let it rest and cool for 15 minutes.
- 9
Step 9
Place a plate on top of the skillet, holding it with your hand, and carefully flip the pie.
- 10
Step 10
Serve the pie warm, preferably with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
