Step 1
Spread mustard or mayonnaise on four slices of bread.
- 2
Step 2
Place one thin slice of ham on each of two slices of bread.
- 3
Step 3
Place a slice of cheese on the ham. Cover the sandwiches with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side down.
- 4
Step 4
Trim the edges of the sandwiches with a wavy knife — this will improve the appearance and help the bread absorb the egg mixture better.
- 5
Step 5
Lightly beat the egg with milk and salt.
- 6
Step 6
Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture, holding them in it for about 30 seconds so the bread is well soaked.
- 7
Step 7
Heat the butter in a pan over medium heat.
- 8
Step 8
Fry the sandwiches for approximately two minutes on each side. Flip them carefully using two spatulas. After flipping, gently press the sandwiches with a spatula so the halves stick together better.
- 9
Step 9
Transfer the sandwiches to a board and let them cool for a minute.
- 10
Step 10
Cut the sandwiches with a serrated knife into triangular halves and serve hot.
