Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

Sift the flour and cornstarch into a mound onto a clean work surface. Make a small indentation in the center. Add a pinch of salt and sugar, pour in cold water with oil.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Carefully lift the flour from the edges to the center and knead a stiff dough. Knead for 10–12 minutes until the dough becomes an elastic, not very sticky ball.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Cover the dough with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let it rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.

  4. 4

    Step 4

For the filling, mix frozen cherries with sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon.

  5. 5

    Step 5

On a work surface dusted with flour, roll out the dough into a thin sheet. Cut out circles using a mold. Place the filling in the center of each circle, pinch the edges, and shape into a dumpling.

  6. 6

    Step 6

Prepare the compote. Place a pot with one liter of water on the stove, add 100 g of sugar and bring to a boil. Carefully add the berries (cherries and currants) and bring to a boil once more. Remove from heat and cool the compote under the lid so it steeps and develops flavor.

  7. 7

    Step 7

Boil the dumplings in compote for 4–5 minutes. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place on a dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon when serving.
