Step 1
Mix wheat flour, sugar, vanilla, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Stir the dry ingredients.

Step 2
Grate half an orange and both mandarins together with the zest on a fine or medium grater. Preserve the juice and pulp pieces. Add the grated citrus to the flour mixture.
- 3
Step 3
Add crushed walnuts to the flour mixture.
- 4
Step 4
Add an egg, softened butter at room temperature, and milk. Mix thoroughly until all butter lumps completely disappear.
- 5
Step 5
Prepare muffin cups. Grease them with vegetable oil or dust with flour. Remember: if you use oil, remove the muffins only after they have completely cooled, otherwise they may stick and break.
- 6
Step 6
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Pour the batter into molds and place in the oven for 35–40 minutes. After 20 minutes, start checking for doneness every 5 minutes. The cupcakes are ready when the surface is firm, but the center remains soft.

Step 7
Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let them cool completely. Carefully take them out of the molds and place on a plate. Dust with powdered sugar or decorate with white icing (mix egg white with 100 g of powdered sugar, whip and apply to the cupcakes, then sprinkle with edible sprinkles).
