Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

Dissolve the yeast with sugar in a glass of warm water. After a few minutes, start kneading the dough: add salt and oil to the bowl and gradually pour in the flour. The dough should turn out soft and elastic.

Leave the dough for an hour in a warm place to ferment until it increases in volume.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Roll the dough into sausages 2–3 cm in diameter and let them rest for 5 minutes.

Cut the sausages into pieces about 30 cm long and form them into rings. The strands can be twisted into a spiral for greater decorative effect. Secure the ends well so they don't unravel during baking.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Dip each ring first in water, then in sesame seeds. To make more sesame seeds stick, slightly flatten the ring on top.

  4. 4

    Step 4

Arrange the rings on a baking sheet and let them sit for 20–30 minutes depending on the room temperature to allow the dough to rise.

  5. 5

    Step 5

Bake the simit in the oven at 180 degrees for 15–20 minutes. Monitor the process: the bagels are thin and bake quickly, sesame seeds may start to burn. Finished simit should be golden and crispy.
