Step 1
Peel the onion and slice it into half rings. Fry it in butter until golden brown.
- 2
Step 2
Add sugar and balsamic vinegar to the onion. Simmer over low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vinegar is completely evaporated.
- 3
Step 3
Form two round patties from the ground meat with a diameter slightly larger than the buns. This will compensate for the meat shrinkage during frying.
- 4
Step 4
Season the cutlets with salt and pepper. Fry over high heat until cooked through. Place 40 g of gouda cheese on each hot cutlet.
- 5
Step 5
Grate the cornichons on a fine grater and mix with mayonnaise — you'll get tartar sauce.
- 6
Step 6
Cut the buns in half lengthwise.
- 7
Step 7
Place half of the caramelized onions on the bottom bun, then add the cheese patty. Spread tartar sauce on the top bun and cover the cheeseburger.
- 8
Step 8
Heat the prepared cheeseburger in the oven at 160 °C and serve warm.
